When analysing gait (walking) patterns, the foot and ankle are a major factor in how a person gets from A to B. However, the rest of the 'chain' should always be considered, i.e the rest of the body. The definition of a chain of events is a series of related or connected facts, events, etc. So if we think of the body as a chain, one part be it the spine or large muscles surrounding the hips will affect the foot and vice versa. If we do not consider the form and function of both our treatment will only be partially effective. Therefore to prepare for a gait analysis appointment it is recommended to bring or wear some shorts and a tighter fitting t shirt so that a fully body analysis can be undertaken.
